National Taiwan Library (part 1)

The National Taiwan Library (εœ‹η«‹θ‡Ίη£εœ–ζ›Έι€¨) is a significant institution in Taiwan. Founded in 1914, it is the oldest public library in Taiwan. The library houses an extensive collection of documents related to Taiwan’s history, culture, politics, and geography. The National Taiwan Library provides various services, including Resource queries, Reader services, Publication information, Digital resources and Events and activities like Summer Lecture Series, Foreign Scholars Library Resource Utilization Course, Exhibition, etc.

There are many Facilities on each floor of the library. There are the Library Card Application Borrow and Return, Circulation Service Desk, Self-Service Holds Pickup, Computer Station, Taiwan Art and Culture Gallery, Breastfeeding Room, Information Desk, Parent and Child Information Center, Visual Impairment Information Center, Current Periodicals and Newspapers, Senior Zone, Briefing Room, and Laptop station, Book Conservation, foreign language section, etc.

 


Digital library centre:

The National Library of Public Information is the first national digital library in Taiwan. 









Information-counter: 

The Information Desk on 1F provides fast guides, courtesy umbrellas, wheelchairs, emergency treatments, and collects book donations.











 FastBook:

All the rental collections come equipped with chip management to enable self-serviced checkout, return, the collect reserved books. user can use FastBook to check out books, and use the sterilization box on the side for sterilization.










Books on Hold Pick-up:

 When user receive an email or SMS notification from the library, he/she can come and pick up reserved books from the Books on Hold Pick-up area, as well as checking out the popular reserved books.





Children's Library:

The Children's Library” is themed around the knowledge forest, ideal for children age 12 or below. The center has a Children's Area, Story House, Computer Search Area, Tree House Reading Area, and an AR Reading Experience Area that brings 2D books to 3D, bringing a diverse reading experience to the kids.





Book Drop:

Automated Book Drop area has the largest book sorting system among all public libraries. Drop the books through the window, and they will be automatically sorted. You will also have a chance to meet the most popular librarian in Taiwan here: Bopi Bopi occasionally appears here to assist in transporting children's books and also, user may also utilize the 24HR book drop by the side doors to return books.








Digital Leisure Center:

 

The Digital Leisure Center around Taiwanese local anime and manga. User can use the wireless earphones provided on site to enjoy animations such as Big Aunty, Smiling Fish, A-kuei, and Mig Said. The center also has various interactive experience designs, such as Katzfun virtual stories, to highlight the educational functions of the library.









Digital Arts Center:

 

The Digital Arts Center is a multimedia showroom that exhibits diverse topics through cross-industry collaborations with relevant units, including outstanding student works from art-related schools, and promotions of popular science knowledge in collaboration with research units, providing the general public with diversified reading materials.





Digital Photo Studio/ Recording Studio:

 

This is one of the paid services include the digital photo studio and recording studio. Charity events including digital arts creation, R&D-related events, or public digital audio/video educations enjoy a discount when applying as a project.




 







Information Retrieval Area:

The Information Retrieval Area provides computers to browse the net. The areas beside the light pillars are the free-for-all temporary Internet area and digital resource retrieval area. For long-period uses, register for a 2-hour use with library card.





Digital Multimedia Centre:

 The Digital Multimedia Centre provides a language-learning area and an audio-visual area. user can rent audio and visual materials of public broadcast version and enjoy them in a single, double, or a small-group room. At the end, there is also a simple photo studio offering free reservation. 







Information Center for the Hearing/Visually Impaired:

 

The Information Center for the Hearing/Visually Impaired” offers dual books, audio books, braille books, computers for the blind, and toy blocks. Additionally, there are multi-functional workshops, and audio-book recording studios to provide the hearing and visually impaired with an exclusive accessible environment.






Art Corridor:

 

The Art Corridor periodically holds various exhibitions. It is a small paradise filled with aesthetics. It is open to reservations from creative units or individuals.













Senior Learning Resources:

 

The Senior Learning Area is set up to meet the reading needs of the senior group age 55 or above. It has a thematic autonomous learning section, and big-print books, and digital newspaper machines and magnifiers that can zoom in on the texts. There are also digital leisure platforms that are equipped with Chinese and other electronic competitive games.






Window to the World Exhibition Area:

 

The "Window to the World" exhibition area conducts occasional thematic expos. In the past, worked with Academia Sinica and the National Science and Technology Museum in various thematic exhibitions, establishing the educational importance of the library to serve as a museum.










Periodicals and Newspapers:

 

The Periodicals and Newspapers section is one of the popular sections of the library. The periodicals section displays approximately 300 types of periodicals on a artistically designed beehive-shaped bookshelf. The newspapers section is located near the periodicals section, providing over 30 types of newspapers in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Southeast Asian languages. It is the public library with the most comprehensive newspaper subscriptions.
